A cliff top coastal walk, the Bondi to Coogee walk extends for six km in Sydney’s eastern suburbs. The Bondi to Coogee walk features stunning views, beaches, parks, cliffs, bays and rock pools. The beaches and parks offer a place to rest, swim or a chance to eat at one of the cafes, hotels, restaurants or takeaways.
Most beaches offer picnic shelters, play areas, kiosks, toilets and change-rooms, Tamarama, Bronte, Coogee and Maroubra have free electric barbecues.
About Bondi
Bondi Beach is located 7 km (4 mi) east of the Sydney central business district. "Bondi" or "Boondi" is an Aboriginal word meaning water breaking over rocks or noise of water breaking over rocks. Bondi Beach is about 1 kilometre (0.62 mi) long.
How to reach?
Bondi is well connected by train and buses. The nearest train station is Bondi Junction and there are also direct buses from the city to the beach.
We took a train till Bondi Junction and from there took a 10-15 minutes bus ride to North Bondi depending upon how crowded Bondi is at that time. There is a good frequency of buses running every 10 minutes.
The mesimerizing walk starts from Bondi. It will be tempting to head down to the beach, surf and relax. But take my word the walk is worth every bit and you will surely be surprised at the amazing view that this path has to offer.
Just few hundred metres at the start of the walk there is a picturesque pool with a view.
It was cold at the time we went so couldn't swim but it surely is one of the things to do in a nice weather. It is open for visitors and also there is a nice cafe near it. Just in case you don't want to swim yet, keep moving on as there are few more pools along the way in the open with a similar or better view.
This place is frquented by both tourist and locals. Its fun and motivating to see so many fitness conscious people running and walking. You feel charged up and an urge to keep walking, jogging comes. The walk also has steep stairs along the way with decent uphill and downhill tracks.
I also liked the Bronte beach which had good waves, not ideal for surfing though because of the proximity to rocks near the shore.
One place you don't want ot miss out is the Waverly Cemetry. I had seen some clips of it in one of the movie and never before I was excited for seeing a cemetry. Some say its the world's most beautifull cemetry and now we second that. Its a well maintained quite place overlooking the sea offering amazing views of the waterfront.
The passage becomes narrow at some places but enough for people to cross by. After a hectic continous walk we took a break to have some snacks and we found this spot. Beach, moutain, greenery, sun, it had everything what more can one need.
Our trip ended at Coogee which felt like a family beach and thanks to the lovely sunny weather it was overcrowded with people enjoying themselves. It has lot of good eating out options to, the one that got my attention was "Chish and Fips".
Coogee again has good connectivity with public transport. There are buses running directly to the city. The nearest station from Coogee too is Bondi Junction.
Tips:
Although an urban walk the Bondi to Coogee walk is open to the elements, please make sure you wear comfy shoes, bring a hat, sunglasses, sun screen, water and in colder weather wear appropriate clothing.
I feel like going back to this place again and again. Next trip will be in summer so that, can take a swim too.
